Getting out and about.

This past weekend was spent meeting up with friends and family that we had not yet seen since Silas was born.  Silas has been so fussy and hit or miss when it comes to his mood, so we were hesitant to start actually taking him out in public for long periods of time.  We decided it would be best to just do it, and thought the change of scenery would be helpful.

On Saturday, we made our first trip with the new guy out to the cottage in South Haven.  We did make a short stop in Holland to visit with my family, and introduced Silas to my aunt and uncle for the first time. Here he is with my uncle Mark.

After that, we were off to the lake.  Our main reason for going was to meet up with our good friends from Chicago who had their first child about a month before we had Silas.  It is great to have another couple to talk to about all things baby, especially since they are experiencing everything before us.  We are always getting such awesome advice, and it is always fun to share stories.  Since they had a girl, we joke around that some day our kids will be husband and wife (or maybe just best friends).

Lillian and Silas meet for the first time!!

So proud of their new grand babies :)

On Sunday we met up with some of our other friends in town that still had to check out the little guy.  We met up for lunch, luckily Silas was an angel the whole time we were there.  Phew!

The weekend was a good one, and we are excited to take Silas on more and more adventures :)

Welcome to the world, little one.

On August 6, 2013 our little one entered the world.  Silas Allan was born at 5:15PM, weighing in at 8lbs 11oz and measuring 23 inches long.  A healthy boy, with a head full of crazy blonde hair.  We fell in love.

Interested in my birth story?

Time to make a baby.

We heard it all the time.

"When are you going to have kids?"
"You're next!"
"We're waiting..."

We knew our lives would change forever when we started a family; we knew the responsibility that came along with it.  And that's why we were in no rush to have children.  We loved our freedom --  being able to do whatever we wanted, whenever we wanted.... spur of the moment day trips to some city we had never been to, checking out the latest brewery in our local "beery city USA", long weekend trips up north or even Las Vegas, and annual international trips to all inclusive resorts.  We were having a lot of fun.  But we also knew we wanted to share that fun with a family of our own.

We were told having children was a "different" kind of fun, and worth the 9 month pregnancy, labor pain, sleepless nights, spit-up everywhere, dirty diapers, endless screaming...  and we decided to give the whole parenting thing a try.

In October of 2012 we took our "last" vacation to Mexico, and in November of 2012 we became pregnant with our first, a son, and this new, wild life began.  And we were thrilled.
